Path

The large fir forest of Schilpario – improperly known as “the pine forest”- provides the backdrop to the first kilometres of this stage: from Schilpario to the Fondi mines and the delightful hamlet of S. Barbara, with the miners’ church of the same name. There is also the monument in memory of the Fondi massacre, a very sad page of the 20th century in this area. The visit to the mines of the A. Bonicelli Park is something that remains impressed in the mind and heart. Returning towards Schilpario, one passes the hamlets of Serta and Pradella – home to some interesting museums and private collections. Then, having passed the Prato grande”, you take the dirt road uphill towards the small alpine church, with an area equipped for a comfortable picnic. Once again from up here you are invited to look and listen. Then all that remains is to take the path that quickly descends through the woods, before turning into the little road that leads to the village of Azzone, with its tower and fountains. Destination of the day.
